We are incredibly excited to announce that PNPP has been selected as a Service Site Partner by TerraCorps, and we will be hosting a stipended service member to serve with us for 11 months as a Community Engagement Coordinator.
The TerraCorps Service Member will focus on inclusive outreach and engagement strategies to increase the impact of PNPP’s tree planting and stewardship programs in Providence’s lowest-tree-canopy neighborhoods.
PNPP’s key focus over the coming year is helping to lead and participate in the PVD Tree Plan. As part of this community-driven planning process, the TerraCorps Service Member will work with PNPP and other PVD Tree Plan partners to develop and test new tree planting, stewardship and engagement pilot projects–guided by and responsive to the communities where they are implemented–which will inform the recommendations presented in the plan, build ongoing community engagement and relationships, and advance the plan’s ultimate goal of creating a more equitably distributed tree canopy. As a TerraCorps member, you will be compensated with a living allowance, education award to be paid on completion of the program, and additional AmeriCorps benefits. TerraCorps members gain valuable experience in nonprofit work as well as new skills and resources to become the next generation of leaders in the realm of equitable land stewardship.
TerraCorps’ work centers land equity, the strengthening of community land ownership and stewardship practices that support a diversity of interests in land for the benefit of human health and environmental sustainability. They place AmeriCorps Members in 11-month service terms across a network of land-based community non-profits working towards equitable land use, food justice and environmental sustainability. This model provides Partners with capacity-building support that strengthens their ability to fulfill their missions over time, thereby enhancing the positive impact on the lives and communities they serve.
