GETTING TREES ON YOUR STREET

Q: I want a new tree in front of my home/office/business–how do I get one?!

A: There are two main ways to get new street trees planted in the city:

1. Through a Neighborhood Planting Award:

  • Since 1989, The Mary Elizabeth Sharpe Street Tree Endowment has matched Providence Parks Department funds to provide trees, soil, sidewalk preparation and tree delivery at no cost to groups of Providence residents who apply for and receive a Neighborhood Street Tree Planting Award.

2. As Individual Trees:

  • Match-Cost Planting → Residents/property owners may split the cost of a new tree installation and planting with the City.
  • Plant-it-Yourself Permit → Residents/property owners may apply for a (free) City permit from the City Forester authorizing you to plant (or hire some to plant) your own tree.
